Semenyo faces eight weeks out as City assess Haaland

Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo will miss eight weeks with a leg injury, manager Enzo Maresca confirmed before City's Champions League match against AEK Athens. [20][25] Maresca said the injury was less serious than initially feared, while Erling Haaland's availability remained unresolved after he limped off on Saturday. [25] Why it matters: City face a confirmed absence for one forward alongside uncertainty over another as they prepare for European competition; Semenyo's recovery window and Haaland's immediate availability are separate squad-planning problems. [20][25] Key insights: Semenyo's absence has a stated duration: eight weeks, described as two months in ESPN's headline. [20][25] | Maresca's assessment contains an important distinction: the injury was less serious than first feared but still requires a substantial absence. [25] | Haaland's status was not confirmed; Maresca said he would "see" about his fitness. [25] | The AEK Athens match provides the immediate observable test of which attacking players are available. [25] Cheatsheet facts: What happened: Maresca confirmed an eight-week absence for Semenyo because of a leg injury. [25] | Who pays: Manchester City lose Semenyo's availability while also assessing Haaland after he limped off on Saturday. [20][25] | The catch: Semenyo's injury was less serious than initially feared, but Haaland's fitness remained undecided.
