Isar Aerospace Reaches Orbit From Continental Europe

Isar Aerospace’s 28-meter Spectrum rocket reached low-Earth orbit after launching from Andøya Spaceport in Norway on 5 September, marking the first orbital launch from continental Europe and the first European fully commercial launch vehicle to reach orbit.[1][3] The second Spectrum flight carried six commercial and educational CubeSats plus an in-orbit technology experiment and made Isar the first provider to satisfy the orbital-launch milestone of the European Launcher Challenge.[1] Scientists have confirmed hundreds of detections of macromolecular carbon in two mudstones from an ancient dried-up river channel in Jezero Crater, making this one of the most extensive detections of complex organic carbon on Mars.[4] Perseverance’s SHERLOC instrument found the carbon in both sedimentary minerals and later-forming carbonate and sulphate minerals, suggesting incorporation during initial deposition and subsequent groundwater alteration.[4]
